We are excited to announce the creation of a new public charter school in the heart of our city. We are committed to improving and expanding opportunities for Denver students by opening a school that teaches our children to live wide-awake lives, helping them become enthusiatic and excellent lifelong learners. The Downtown Denver Expeditionary School (DDES) will cultivate the habits and skills children need to thrive in the 21st century; including questioning and posing problems, preserverance, and taking responsible risks. The proverb above simply illustrates the importance of the art of "doing", which is the foundation of Expeditionary Learning. Our school will use the downtown community and the outside world as a primary learning environment, along with the traditional classroom. In doing so, your child will become a scientist, explorer, mathematician, author, artist, designer, and entrepreneur by working on in-depth, meaningful projects in each subject area. Through caring relationships and a holistic curriculum, the DDES will help develop children who are inspired to use their talents to make a difference in the world around them.
The Downtown Denver Expeditionary School is an inclusive learning community committed to elevating the educational experiences of all children, developing the whole child: social, emotional, physical, and academic. The DDES will hold extended hours with educational opportunities for children before and after school, as well as a wide selection of extra-curricular activities. We believe learning should be a joy-filled, personally meaningful experience where children's intellectual curiosity is stimulated and celebrated within a safe, diverse, intergenerational community!
